About Brookfield, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Brookfield is located in Cook County, Illinois approximately thirteen miles west of downtown Chicago. Most of the land around Brookfield was inhabited by Native Americans of the Chippewa, Ottawa, Pottawatomi, Kickapoo, and Kaskaskia Indian tribes until 1803, when the majority of the area was acquired by the U. S. government and became the Illinois Territory. Over the next fifty years, the Illinois Territory became the state of Illinois and the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad began running a route that passed through the Brookfield area, encouraging growth and commerce in the region. In 1888, real estate investor Samuel Eberly Gross bought up parcels of land in the Brookfield area and began offering them for sale in 1889. By 1893, area residents were ready to incorporate and Brookfield officially became a village on November 7.
Today, the Village of Brookfield is a thriving residential and business community of nearly 20,000 citizens with good schools, low taxes, and convenient transportation that includes the Metra commuter rail and Pace Suburban Bus services. Brookfield lies in the U. S. humid continental climate zone and experiences hot humid summers, cold snowy winters, and mild, comfortable weather during spring and fall, making it a lovely place to live or visit during any season of the year!
The Village is home to the world-renowned Brookfield Zoo that houses more than 450 species of animals and has gained international recognition for its cutting-edge conservation and animal-care tactics. The Brookfield Park and Recreation Department maintains and operates a number of parks and recreational facilities within the village, including Jaycee Ehlert Park, which hosts the Brookfield Jaycees Halloween Carnival, and Kiwanis Park that is the location of numerous annual community events, including the Battle of the Bands and 4th of July Parade, just to name a few.
Known as a community where the Village president answers his own phone and residents put family first and know each other on a first-name basis, Brookfield definitely fits the definition of "community" in every sense of the word!
